Differentiation with Technology

I created a 3 day lesson plan for a kindergarten small group special education pull out classroom. After using Quick Phonic Screener data I identified letter sounds that they missed. I used the common letter sounds to reteach. I focused on p, r, and short vowels. Then there was a group of students who passed all the letter sounds but needed to work on blending. Therefore, two groups were formed. I used videos and letter cards to support visual learning. I used worksheets and games to engage learning. I created options for students to choose as their assessment.   Technology Integration I used technology to help teach the lesson and use it as an engagement activity. Technology was used while presenting material by using videos. I also included interactive activities in the content of the engagement. I created an engagement activity for the students identify words with the letter r. On day 1, the teacher would add pictures and words to the slides that start with the lett...
I created a lesson plan for kindergarteners in a resource room. I used a shorten version of “The Little Red Riding Hood” and cut out pictures to act out the story. I would model how to find the beginning, middle, and end. I would use a graphic organizer to draw and write about the story.   Then students would get on the computer and log into Nearpod. We would go through a poll about what they know about beginning, middle, and end. Then there is a video on “Jabari Jumps.” The last part is boards for students to find the beginning, middle, and end.   The last part of the lesson is the assessment. I would read “Hansel and Gretel.” Then act out using picture cut outs. Students would choose what they would like to do for their assessment. They can choose to act it out, draw it, write about it, create a trifold, or fill out a graphic organizer.   Differentiation   I used varied assessments by interest. I took the learning style inventory questions an...

Learning Styles Analysis

Data collection Data was collected from a learning styles inventory. There were five kindergarteners inventoried. Questions contained pictures for young students. The inventory was given one on one. I read each question to the students. The questions were worded yes or no pertaining to visualization, kinesthetics, or auditory learning. The data showed three out of the four students preferred kinesthetic learning. Only one of the students preferred visual learning.   Interconnection of Learning Styles and Development   Cognitive Learning Cognitive learning is the process of retaining information. Visuals, kinesthetic, auditory, and reading/writing are used as a cognition strategy to experience learning (Valamis, 2022). It uses senses to connect meaning into long term memory. Learning styles are used as a support strategy for cognition. Visuals aids can be used to support cognition which helps the brain make visual sense of content. To support the group of s...

Technology-Based Resources for Differentiation

These are my top 5 technology-based programs for differentiated learning. Differentiation is an important part of instruction for the  "personalization for learning tasks"  (Colquitt, Pritchard, et al, 2019 ). Differentiation is important in order to reaching students and their learning needs.  Differentiation in best practice because it differs by content, process, and product  (Taylor, 2015) . Teachers differentiated by content which is what you teach. The process which is how you teach. It is also product which is the evidence that the student shows.  ·        Think about using these technology-based programs to differentiate your product, process, and content.  #5  Google Slides           Google Slides can  differentiate the students'  product ( Google Slides, 2022) . Teachers, classes, groups, individuals can create slides to present information or their learning. The slides have a ...
